Good lighting in the workplace is essential, as poor or excessive lighting can lead to mistakes and accidents at work, as well as increasing visual fatigue and eye disorders among workers.
To ensure the correct performance of tasks and safety due to good lighting in the workplace, REM Ingeniería assesses the level of lighting by carrying out measurements by specialized professionals, evaluates the lighting conditions, and proposes the necessary corrective measures. This will reduce visual fatigue for workers and ensure they work in the appropriate lighting conditions required by Royal Decree 486/1997 of April 14, which establishes the minimum health and safety requirements in the workplace.
Article 8 of the Royal Decree states that “Lighting in workplaces must allow workers to have adequate visibility to move around and carry out their activities without risk to their safety and health,” and Annex IV establishes the minimum lighting levels for workplaces, measured in lux.
Similarly, Royal Decree 488/1997, of April 14, on workstations with display screens, pays special attention to lighting. “General lighting and special lighting (work lamps), where necessary, shall ensure adequate lighting levels and appropriate luminance ratios between the screen and its surroundings, taking into account the nature of the work, the visual requirements of the user, and the type of screen used.”
The layout of the workplace and the workstation, as well as the location and technical characteristics of artificial light sources, must be coordinated in such a way as to avoid glare and annoying reflections on the screen or other parts of the equipment.
REM Ingeniería carries out a lighting study to help employers comply with their legal obligations and workers to carry out their work in optimal lighting conditions, reducing visual fatigue and minimizing the risk of future eye problems due to poor lighting in the workplace.
